For parents
Your child has asked you about Spake. Here is what it is, what it costs, and what happens to their voice.
What it is
An app for practising the Leaving Certificate language oral out loud. An AI examiner asks the questions in the same sections and order as the real exam, listens, and asks follow-ups. Afterwards the app shows what your child said, corrects the errors it is sure about, and rates the answer against the areas the real examiner marks. It is practice, not a prediction: it never gives a mark or a grade.
What it costs
€24.99 for one language, or €39.99 for all four. One payment. Access ends on 30 June 2027 and does not renew. There is no subscription and nothing to cancel.
For comparison, a grind costs up to €80 an hour and an oral preparation course €150 to €170.
How to approve a purchase
On an iPhone in a Family Sharing group with Ask to Buy on, your child taps Buy and the request appears on your phone to approve. On Android, purchase approvals work the same way through Family Link. Or your child can buy with their own payment method. Whichever way, it is one payment and it ends in June.
What happens to their voice
- Each answer is sent once for that turn to a speech recogniser (Deepgram in the EU, or Microsoft Azure for Irish) and the words to Anthropic’s Claude for the examiner’s reply and the feedback. Then it is discarded. No recording is stored on any server.
- Transcripts and feedback stay on the phone. Nobody at Spake reads them.
- No name, email, school or date of birth is collected. The account is anonymous.
- No voiceprints, no emotion detection, no advertising, no analytics that track your child.
- If your child is under 16, nothing is processed until you confirm by email. You can withdraw at any time from the same email.
